Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7, the Tower of London is one of the most famous fortresses in the world. Despite its reputation as a place of torture and imprisonment, it holds numerous stories and treasures waiting to be discovered.
Crown Jewels
The Crown Jewels, displayed in the Tower since 1661, represent a thousand-year tradition of precious objects preserved in the fortress. Discover their importance to the British monarchy, the role of the Tower in their protection, and the long tradition of coronations in England.
This unique collection includes some of the world's most famous diamonds and regal objects still used at important national ceremonies, such as the State Opening of Parliament.
The White Tower
The White Tower was built to inspire fear and protect London from invaders. Today, its imposing presence dominates the Thames, representing a symbol of the city and of Great Britain. Inside, you'll find the Line of Kings, a collection of brightly colored wooden horses, part of the Tower's oldest and most unusual exhibits.
Real Beasts
For over 600 years, exotic and wild animals were housed in the Tower for kings and queens. Admire sculptures of lions, baboons, an elephant, and even a polar bear. Learn how they arrived here and their fate in the Brick Tower exhibit, hearing interesting facts about their care and occasional mishaps.
The Tower Mint
For over 500 years, the Mint produced the majority of British coins. Discover the Mint's history, from Isaac Newton's efforts against counterfeiters, to the punishments meted out by Edward I, to the restoration of coinage under Elizabeth I.
Beefeater Tour
The Beefeaters (Yeoman Warders) have guarded the Tower for centuries, sharing tales of intrigue, betrayal, and royal mystery. Join one of their tours to discover incredible stories passed down through generations, told in their unique and engaging style.
The Medieval Palace (opening May 23, 2025)
The Tower's royal apartments, built for King Henry III and Edward I, have been transformed into an immersive permanent exhibition. Discover medieval life through interactive displays, multi-sensory reconstructions, and detailed illustrations.
Visit Edward I's bedroom and discover the role of Eleanor of Castile, patron of culture and influential in royal decoration. The exhibition also includes stories of lesser-known figures at court, such as Edward I's washerwoman and the keeper of the polar bear.
